Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information TrueScore collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the TrueScore website, the TrueScore app and any related service (together, the "service"). 1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: your name, email address and password.
- Identity details: your date of birth, home address, mobile phone number and Social Security number. These are required by the consumer reporting agencies to locate and verify your credit file. Your Social Security number is transmitted to our provider Array US, Inc. and the agencies for verification and is not stored in TrueScore's own systems.
- Your consents: the terms you accepted, the authorization you gave, when, and from what device.
- Support messages and anything else you choose to send us.
Information we receive about you
- Credit information: your consumer reports, credit scores, alerts about changes to your credit files, and identity-verification results, obtained from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion through Array, with your authorization.
- Payment information: if you subscribe, our payment provider tells us the status of your subscription. TrueScore does not receive or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and device data: pages viewed, actions taken, the browser and device you use, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and timestamps. We use this to keep the service secure, to fix problems and to understand which features are used.
2. How we use your information, including your consumer reports
We use your consumer reports and credit scores for credit monitoring and consumer credit education only. That means:
- showing you your credit reports and scores inside your account;
- monitoring your credit files for changes and alerting you when they occur;
- explaining what affects your scores, showing your score history, and letting you simulate the effect of possible actions;
- helping you prepare to dispute information you believe is inaccurate (Section 5); and
- verifying your identity before any of your credit information is displayed.
We do not use your consumer reports to make decisions about you, and we never use or share them for credit, employment, insurance, housing or any other eligibility purpose. Every request we make for your credit information is a consumer-initiated request based on your written authorization, recorded as a soft inquiry that does not affect your scores.
We use the rest of your information to create and run your account, to communicate with you about the service (alerts, receipts, security notices, changes to our terms), to provide support, to prevent fraud and abuse, to comply with the law, and to improve the service.
3. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your credit information with anyone for their own marketing. We share information only as follows:
- Array US, Inc. Our credit data provider. Array receives your identity details to verify you with the consumer reporting agencies and returns your credit reports, scores and alerts. Array processes your information to provide the service to you under a contract that restricts any other use.
- The consumer reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion), which receive your identity details in order to locate your file, verify your identity and provide your credit information.
- Service providers that host our systems, store our data, send our emails and process payments, under contracts that limit their use of your information to providing those services.
- Legal reasons. When required by law, subpoena or court order, to protect the rights, property or safety of TrueScore, our members or others, or to investigate fraud or security issues.
- Business transfers. If TrueScore is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, and we will notify you.
- With your direction. When you ask us to share something.
4. Your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) promotes the accuracy, fairness and privacy of information in the files of consumer reporting agencies. A summary of your major rights is below. The full official summary is published by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at www.consumerfinance.gov/learnmore.
- You must be told if information in your file has been used against you, and given the name, address and phone number of the agency that provided it.
- You have the right to know what is in your file, and to free file disclosures in many situations, including one free report from each nationwide agency through www.annualcreditreport.com.
- You have the right to ask for a credit score.
- You have the right to dispute incomplete or inaccurate information, and the consumer reporting agency must investigate and correct or delete inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable information, usually within 30 days.
- Consumer reporting agencies may not report outdated negative information, in most cases more than seven years old, or bankruptcies more than ten years old.
- Access to your file is limited to people with a valid need, and your consent is required before reports are provided to employers.
- You may limit "prescreened" offers of credit and insurance by calling 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688).
- You have the right to place a free security freeze or a fraud alert on your credit report.
- You may seek damages from violators of the FCRA in state or federal court.
- Identity theft victims and active duty military personnel have additional rights.
5. How to dispute information on your credit report
TrueScore does not create, hold or change the information in your credit file; the consumer reporting agencies do. If you believe an item is inaccurate or incomplete, you can dispute it with the agency free of charge, and the agency must investigate, usually within 30 days. In short:
- Identify the item in your TrueScore report, the bureau it appears on, and why it is wrong.
- Gather evidence such as statements, payment confirmations, creditor letters, or an FTC identity theft report if fraud is involved.
- File the dispute with the bureau online, by phone or by mail: Equifax at equifax.com (P.O. Box 740256, Atlanta, GA 30374), Experian at experian.com/disputes (P.O. Box 4500, Allen, TX 75013), TransUnion at transunion.com (P.O. Box 2000, Chester, PA 19016). You may also dispute directly with the creditor that reported the information.
- The bureau must send you the written results, and a free copy of your report if anything changed. If you disagree, you can add a statement of dispute to your file and complain to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at consumerfinance.gov/complaint.
Our Terms of Use set out the full step-by-step process. TrueScore can help you organize this information but does not file disputes on your behalf and cannot remove accurate information.
6. Security and retention of your information
Security
- All data moves between your device, TrueScore and our providers over encrypted connections (TLS), and is encrypted at rest in our database.
- Your Social Security number is used only for identity verification with the consumer reporting agencies and is not stored by TrueScore.
- Access to systems holding your information is restricted to the people and services that need it to run the service, and is logged. Our providers maintain their own security programs and certifications.
- No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
Retention
- Account information, consent records and the credit information we have displayed to you are kept while your account is open, so we can show you your history and alerts.
- After your account is closed we retain records for up to 24 months, or longer where a law, regulator, audit or dispute requires it, and then delete or de-identify them.
- Consent records are retained for as long as the law requires us to be able to show we had your authorization to access your credit file.
- Usage and device data is kept in identifiable form for no longer than 12 months.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction. You can see and update your account details in Settings. Credit information itself can only be corrected through the consumer reporting agencies (Section 5).
- Alerts and emails. You control alert and notification preferences in Settings. Service and security messages cannot be turned off while your account is open.
- Closing your account and deletion. You can close your account at any time. Closing it withdraws your authorization for us to access your credit file and starts the retention clock in Section 6. You can also ask us to delete your information, subject to the records we must keep by law.
- State privacy rights. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete or port your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising them. Information covered by the FCRA or the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act may be exempt from some state privacy laws. To exercise a right, contact us using Section 11; we will verify your identity before acting.
8. Cookies and similar technologies
The website and app use only the cookies and local storage needed to keep you signed in, remember your preferences and keep the service secure. We do not use advertising cookies. If we add analytics, it will be described here.
9. Children
TrueScore is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If a change is material we will notify you by email or inside the service before it takes effect. The effective date and version at the top of this page tell you which version applies.
